Disney Villainous Wiki

Ancient Soldiers is an Item in Horned King's Villain deck. They are part of his win condition, as he needs to play at least four copies of them so he can replace them with Cauldron Born. They are also his only way to perform the Activate action, which he can use to flip The Black Cauldron.

Strategy[]

These are the literal foundation of Horned King's Objective, and should, for the most part, be your priority in getting into play. The faster you can get them into your Realm, the faster they can be turned into Cauldron Born. Once they're in play (before they become Cauldron Born), nothing in the Fate deck can get rid of them, but they are vulnerable to I Believe in You if they're still in your hand; yet another reason to play them quickly. The first copy should be played wherever is most convenient to activate The Black Cauldron (most often your current location), while subsequent copies should be played to a location you aren't, preferably wherever you plan to visit next turn, to minimize the impact of Gurgi's Sacrifice; having Our Hour Has Arrived in hand can make this advice more flexible. Move these as needed to get around Fair Folk and use the Activate.

The only reason to not play as many copies of Ancient Soldiers as possible is when facing Jafar, as only having one copy in play at a time is the best way to avoid Deception; if both copies of Deception and Manipulation (which you cannot avoid triggering) are discarded, you can be more liberal in playing these.
