"ARRR!"

Captain Jack is one of three playable Villains in an upcoming Disney Villainous expansion pack. He is from the movie James and the Giant Peach, released in 1996, in which he is voiced by Chris Sarandon. He resembles Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Captain Jack has a compass, which he navigates to resolve some of his cards. The pointing direction determines the outcome of the card. He has several ways of adjusting those rolls, and Spike The Aunts can subtract from them.

Captain Jack has a special setup: he places Mr. Centipede in Arctic Circle at the beginning of the game.

Objective[]

Captain Jack must convince James Henry Trotter to go to New York City, then defeat him with his Allies. He does this by using Crocodile Tongues to grow a Giant Peach, making James Henry Trotter realize he should go to New York City from England. Once four You Can't Crawl Away From Us! cards are successfully played, James Henry Trotter arrives, and must be Vanquished.

Strategy[]

Captain Jack is a relatively straightforward Villain: play four copies of Captain Jack's Sword, play a few Allies to Arctic Circle, defeat James Henry Trotter. The main thing that makes him interesting is his gimmick: the compass. Most of his cards have varying outcomes depending on how you navigate, and while he has a few ways of fixing the odds, the uncertainty still makes him exciting to play.

To the first part, you will want to be moving through your deck quickly, discarding or playing cards, in order to get to your copies of Captain Jack's Pirates. There are six of them in your deck, thankfully, so you won't usually need to reshuffle to get enough. However, unless you are very lucky, both in direction pointing and in not getting an Execution sniped by James Henry Trotter's Effect variant, you will probably need to play The Robot Shark to get to four. To help tip the odds in your favor, you'll want to get out The Rhino Cloud as quickly as possible to a location you visit often (likely either the Arctic Circle or Atlantic Ocean), and use Captain Jack's Sword as needed. Execution and Vanquishing with You Can't Crawl Away From Us! are helpful in getting through your deck quicker, as is Parrot Skeleton if you're at a location with a Discard Cards action. Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker are also fantastic, especially if you can get multiple uses out of them.

Next you will want to build up Allies. For the most part, stacking them in England is the safest bet, as that's where James is going to show up, and likely where Magic Man will be played, and you should Vanquish them immediately, as you'll have to eventually anyway. If a particularly nasty Hero gets thrown at you (such as Miss Spider), play Allies as needed to their location to deal with them, but you don't really need to pepper your Realm with Allies unless New York City is already full. That said, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker will be most useful at England until you're ready to defeat James, and you can move any stray Allies into position with the Rooster anyway. Try to get Viking, Eskimo, Pegleg, and Duckman into play as soon as you can, as they can save you a lot of Power in the long run. The Robot Shark is your most plentiful Ally, and will thus be the one who does most of your Vanquishing - just remember to leave a couple in New York City for James.

Once you've played four Captain Jack's Pirates (and there is no reason to delay - yes, the Travel Book can move James out of position, but that's easier to deal with than getting a Captain Jack's Pirates discarded) and have enough Allies in the right spot, just defeat James. You have two Vanquish actions, and a couple cards that give you extra ones. Your main stumbling blocks are going to be Miss Spider restricting your movement, Mr. Centipede, Earthworm, Glowworm, and Mrs. Ladybug defending James, or too many Heroes blocking your actions and slowing you down. You should be ruthless with Mr. Centipede, Earthworm, Glowworm, and Mrs. Ladybug, as previously mentioned, and most other Heroes (apart from Mr. Grasshopper who is usually just better to leave alone) should be dealt with swiftly as well, as your game is much easier with your top row of actions uncovered, especially with your Gain 3 Power action coverable.

Countering Captain Jack is also pretty straightforward: prioritize Miss Spider, placing her at New York City, and then Mr. Grasshopper, Earthworm, Mr. Centipede, Glowworm, and Mrs. Ladybug, playing them to the Arctic Circle. Other than that, play Heroes to cover actions, and go with Spike The Aunts or Effect James when he's still trying to get out Captain Jack's Pirates. The Giant Peach is in theory helpful, but Captain Jack has so many Allies and he can play them so easily that the Giant Peach usually has zero impact on the outcome of the game.
