Strength is an Attribute present in all Ally and Hero cards. It represents the resilience of an Ally/Hero, it has several uses through the game and it can be modified by other cards in the Realm.

Altering Strength[]

Strength can be altered by card Abilities; these alterations can be permanent or temporary.

  • Card Abilities: Some cards have the Ability to increase or decrease the Strength of Allies/Heroes in a location, the Realm or the Hero to which an Item is attached, they can be permanent or temporary.
  • Allies/Heroes: Some Allies/Heroes have the Ability to increase or decrease the Strength of Allies/Heroes in their location, the realm or a specific Ally/Hero in their location or Realm. Some Allies/Heroes increase their own strength for each Ally/Hero in their location or Realm, or for each other Ally/Hero in their location or Realm.
  • Activated Abilities: some activated Abilities have the effect of temporarily increasing or decreasing Strength of Allies/Heroes.

Uses[]

  • Vanquish: During a Vanquish action, compare the Strength of a Hero and Allies, the Hero is defeated if the combined Strength of the Allies equals or exceeds his Strength.
  • Condition Cards: Several Condition cards are playable when opponents have/play allies of certain Strength, or defeat Heroes of certain Strength.
  • Effects: several Effects target Heroes of a certain Strength.

FAQ[]

  • Whenever referring to a Hero's/Ally's Strength, always consider all other card Abilities that are in effect in the Realm. For Example, if a Hero/Ally has a Strength of 5 printed on their card, but another card in the Realm gives them -1 Strength, then that Hero's/Ally's Strength is considered to be 4 for all purposes.
  • If a Hero's (or Ally) Strength is reduced to 0 by other card Abilities you must still use a Vanquish action or card Ability to defeat the Hero. However, if you use a Vanquish action, no Allies need to be discarded. You can defeat a Hero with 0 Strength even if you have no Allies at the Hero's Location.

Clarifications[]

  • The strength of a Hero/Ally is only altered after being played: anywhere else, they are considered to have the printed Strength. For example, if there is an ongoing effect that prevents Heroes/Allies of a Strength of 4 or less from being played and another ongoing effect that gives all Heroes/Allies -1 Strength, and you want to play a Hero/Ally with a Strength of 5, you can play that Hero/Ally since his current Strength is 5 and they meet the playing restriction, though once played, their Strength will be 4.
  • Strengths cannot be decreased below 0. For example, if Dr. Facilier attaches Frog Form to Ray, he has 0 Strength, not negative 1.
