"The sea and all its spoils bow to my power!"

Ursula is one of four playable Villains in the Villainous introductory set, Introduction to Evil. She is from the movie The Little Mermaid, released in 1989, in which she is voiced by Pat Carroll and animated by Ruben A. Aquino.

Ursula has no Vanquish actions on her board; instead, she must play Binding Contracts to specific locations for single-use Vanquishes.

Objective[]

Ursula must play the Trident and the Crown, and move them so she has them at her Lair.

Strategy[]

The Introduction to Evil version of Ursula plays quite differently from the original version, being the Villain most changed in the set. Most significant are the loss of the Lock token, the rearranging of actions in her locations, and the changing of her Objective to be immediate, rather than start-of-turn. This lowers the difficulty level of playing as her, which is appropriate for an introductory set, and changes to almost all of her cards give her a more dynamic playstyle, rather than mostly discarding her deck as quickly as possible to get to her key cards.

Ursula's goal is still the Crown and Trident, but both no longer have any abilities, only restrictions on where they can be played (The Palace and The Shore, respectively), making it so you have to actually move them, rather than just playing them immediately to Ursula's Lair. To compensate for this, the Crown now costs only 2 Power. You still want to find these two Items as quickly as possible, meaning you will still want to be discarding heavily, but there are now a few cards you will actually want to play, rather than just discarding everything. To that end, the new version of Whirlpool lets you breeze through your deck pretty quickly.

Flotsam and Jetsam are now required to get rid of Heroes, as Binding Contracts have been changed to give a Vanquish action, meaning your eels act as more traditional Allies, though they are invincible. You will want to play them as soon as you find them, to help keep your board clear. To that end, you will also want to play most of the Binding Contracts you find as well, to ensure you're able to deal with Heroes quickly. And yes, you will want to defeat Heroes and not just stack them all in one location, as Ariel and Sebastian have passive abilities you will not want to deal with, and Snarfblat has been changed to be a taunter, to protect them. However, Ariel's abilities have been split in two; her on-play ability has been given to King Triton (who no longer steals the Trident, and is thus no longer part of Ursula's win condition), and her passive ability has been softened a bit, only applying to the Move an Item or Ally action. As a final touch, Change Form is now your tool for messing with your own Fate deck, letting you avoid Ariel and Triton as long as possible.

Cauldron is now one of Ursula's best cards, allowing you to fish out both the eels and the Binding Contracts for free every turn you visit its location. This gives you reliable access to your Vanquishing tools, though it does make Divination a little worse in comparison. You will want to play Cauldron as soon as possible for this reason. Your one other defeating tool is the new version of Poor Unfortunate Souls, which has the added benefit of moving one of your Items toward your Lair; playing this can often be a game-winning move, knocking out Ariel or Sebastian and then pushing your last Item over the finish line.

If you are not Fated, it only takes five Move an Item or Ally actions to move your Items into place, which means that once you've found them and gotten 6 Power to play them, Ursula can win quite quickly. Ideally, you will want to alternate between Eric's Ship and The Shore to get through your deck to your Items, then alternate between Ursula's Lair and The Palace to move them. On top of this, Ursula has lost none of her ability to dish out Fate, retaining Trickery unchanged, and with the changes to the actions in her Realm, Grow Giant can now let her Fate twice in one turn at either her Lair or Eric's Ship. This can make her challenging to deal with, and opponents will want to find Ariel and Triton quickly, and just generally cover her board in Heroes to slow her down.
